Alvernia's Homecoming & Family Weekend 2024 runs from October 18 to 20. Cheer on ÃÄÄïÖ±²¥'s football team, and check out this year's festivities, including puppy yoga, a birthday bash for the Golden Wolf, a young alumni and student happy hour, a s'more-making event and a campus sustainability celebration.
 

Support Our Neighbors in Need During Homecoming & Family Weekend!


For over 30 years, ÃÄÄïÖ±²¥ students, faculty, staff, and friends have served their community and assisted neighbors in need during the annual Turkey Drive. As we renew our commitment to students and local community members during the holiday season, please bring a non-perishable food item to Homecoming and Family Weekend.

Friday, October 18

Campus Sustainability Celebration – QUAD: Noon-3 p.m.


Join the Office of Institutional Sustainability (OIS) and the Student Sustainability Club (SSC) on the QUAD for the Campus Sustainability Celebration:

  • Win prizes
  • Get free sustainability items
  • Participate in our clothing swap
  • Purchase fresh produce from Bog Turtle Creek Farm
  • Participate in the Recycling Relay
  • Submit an entry for the Sustainability Ideas Competition
  • Learn how to get involved in sustainability on our campus
  • Sign up for Commute PA and earn points to redeem at businesses around our area
Young Alumni and ÃÄÄïÖ±²¥ Student Happy Hour – Holleran Patio: 5 to 7 p.m.


This was a new event last year and one of the most popular weekend activities. It connects our current ÃÄÄïÖ±²¥ students with our Young Alumni (Under 35). Enjoy food and drinks while networking with young professionals. All attendees must be 21 to enter.

Golden Wolf Birthday Bash – QUAD: 6-10 p.m.


Celebrate a special weekend for our beloved Golden Wolf with a Birthday-themed party! There will be yard games, karaoke, DIY Cupcakes, and plenty of party favor giveaways. No need to register, stop by!


Saturday, October 19

University Bookstore


Stop by the Bookstore (Student Center) to get your latest AU gear. Be sure to take advantage of your alumni discount! You can also check out what they offer online!

Rosary – Grotto: 9:30 a.m.


Start your morning with peace, and come to the Grotto at for the rosary, being led by Sr. Rosemary Stets '71.

John R. Post Center at Reading CollegeTowne Tours – Depart from Student Center Shuttle Stop: 9:30 and 11 a.m.


See the newest addition to the Reading campus: The John R Post Center! It is located on Penn Street in Downtown Reading and features classrooms and labs in our business, communication, leadership, and healthcare programs. Meet a Golden Guide at the Student Center Shuttle Stop and head to CollegeTowne to check out Starbucks, the podcast studio, the Bloomberg Terminal, and more! The shuttles will depart campus at 9:30 and 11 a.m., returning to campus in about an hour. 

Family Fun Zone – QUAD: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.


Fun and games for the entire family! No need to sign up; stop by the Quad for a photo booth, Stuff-a-Wolf, face painting, balloon art, a giant inflatable slide and more!

Athletic Alumni Games and Socials


Were you a Women’s or Men’s Lacrosse, or Women’s Basketball team member? Show off your skills on Saturday morning with fellow alumni, or you can watch and socialize. The teams will then gather in the Tailgating Lot (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) to share stories of how good they used to be! Registration links have been emailed to all alumni who were a part of these programs. Please email alumni@alvernia.edu for more information.

Football Tailgating – Lot C: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.


Join us to socialize and enjoy your favorite pre-game meals and snacks before the 1 p.m. kick-off for football. This growing ÃÄÄïÖ±²¥ tradition has quickly become a popular place to gather with fellow Golden Wolves. Please be sure to stop by the alumni tent to say hi! Tailgating is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Please be sure to check out the guidelines around tailgating.

Maroon & Gold Tailgating Package – Lot C: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.


We decided to spruce up the atmosphere a little this year and offer a VIP area featuring pizza from Nonno Alby’s, owned by Massimo Grande ’07, and a Beer Garden. The VIP package costs $30 and includes the following:

  • Access to the Nonno Alby’s food truck pizza
  • 1 drink ticket to be redeemed at the featured Beer Garden
  • A Custom Homecoming & Family Weekend T-shirt
  • Beverages and Refreshments
  • Live DJ, The People’s DJ, ÃÄÄïÖ±²¥ Alum Nick Talarico ‘03  
Maroon & Gold Beer Garden – Tailgating Lot C: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.


Back by popular demand, we will have a Beer Garden again, featuring all local vendors All guests over the age of 21 can purchase drinks in the garden. You will be asked to provide your official ID to be eligible to purchase or consume alcoholic beverages.

Class of 2024 Gift Dedication- The Golden Wolf Mural on the QUAD: Noon


Due to the work of our most recent graduates, we have a new artwork on campus celebrating our mascot. Please stop by for this dedication, and even take a picture you can print take with you.

Golden Wolves Football – ÃÄÄïÖ±²¥ Stadium: 1 p.m.


Come cheer on the Golden Wolves as they take on Eastern University. If you have experienced it before, you know how exciting a great Homecoming game can be. . You can also purchase tickets at the stadium on game day for guests when you arrive.

S'more Time Together - QUAD: 4 to 7 p.m.


The end of the football game does not mean the end to fun! Stop by the quad for quality time together around our campfire and even make your own s'more! While supplies last.

Mass of Thanksgiving for the Bernardine Sisters' 130th Anniversary - Sacred Heart Chapel: 4 p.m.


(*This does not count towards your Sunday Obligation.) After Mass the Sisters will have the Blessing of the Tree, which will be planted in honor of their anniversary to take place outside the Motherhouse.

Sunset Tours of Francis Hall – FH Atrium: 7 p.m.


Tour our iconic Francis Hall with our Sr. Rosemary Stets and friends at sunset. Learn about the history of the building and hear the stories of those impacted by it. We will even check out the tower! You do not want to miss this unique opportunity.

Silent Disco - Student Center Seminar Rooms: 8 to 11 p.m.


Dance the night away, ditch the speakers, and have your own personal DJ using wireless headphones to enjoy music. Open to all, no registration required!

 

Sunday, October 20

Mass – Sacred Heart Chapel: 11 a.m.


Join the ÃÄÄïÖ±²¥ community in worship Sunday morning in the Sacred Heart Chapel (460 Saint Bernardine St., Reading, PA 19607) to close out a week of Homecoming events.

Champagne Brunch: Noon


 Enjoy a brunch after Mass in the Francis Hall Atrium for one of our final Homecoming events. Unwind, enjoy some food, and talk with ÃÄÄïÖ±²¥ community members.

Puppy Yoga and Playtime - Student Center Seminar Rooms: 9:30 a.m. to noon


Take a "paws" on your morning and join us for puppy yoga! Learn downward dog from the pros! There will be three sessions, followed by a Puppy Playtime.
