Applying to the Program
Alvernia encourages qualifying students to apply for admission to the Honors Program. Qualifying students are those with demonstrated academic ability and a desire to learn and be challenged. Incoming First-Year Students who have a minimum 3.5 high school GPA and an 1170 SAT score are sent applications, but may apply to the Program prior to their first year. Students will be enrolled upon the discretion of the director.
Students are able to join the Honors Program after their first semester or upon transfer to the University. Transferring college students wishing to join the program must have a collegiate GPA of 3.5, the recommendation of a professor and the approval of the Honors Director. Students wishing to join the program should submit a letter of intent to Honors Program Director Victoria Williams, Ph.D., at victoria.williams@alvernia.edu.
Letter of Intent
The Honors Program seeks individuals with a passion for learning new things, a willingness to achieve excellence, and a sense of excitement about college and their future. To assess interest, students should address the following questions in their letter of intent:
- Why would you like to be in the Honors Program?
- What talents or skills would you bring to the program that are important or unique?
- Which is more important to you good grades or enhanced understanding of a subject? Why?
- What is your dream job? How will your undergraduate education help you get there?
